Avalyn Manor is located on 10 acres in Howell, MI., owned by Lynne & Mike Bennett. We first got involved with Borzoi in 1984, when we took care of "Stryder" and "Lovie" for our friend when she went through a divorce. They ended up staying here for over a year and we got hooked on the breed.

After that we researched everything we could get our hands on, and looked at different kennels. After we decided on the kennel, we had to wait for the right litter from the right sire and dam. We finally got our first Borzoi puppy"Duke" on April 13, 1987. Duke completed his championship on July 1, 1989 at 2 1/2 years of age. Not bad for our first Borzoi. He also obtained his Canine Good Citzenship October 17, 1993 and was offically known as CH Majenkir Duke Of Avalyn, C.G.C. Whelped 2/6/87 we had to say goodbuy to Duke on 4/13/01 due to complications of old age. He was 14 years, 2 months of age. Duke lived a long and happy life here and taught us alot about the breed. Duke came from Karen Staudt-Cartabona's Majenkir Kennels.

Coming from breeding and showing Appaloosa horses for 25 years, we always felt that when you breed, you breed only the best. Duke was a nice start for us to get into Borzoi, but we knew we could do better when it came time to breed. A couple years after we got Duke we decided it was time to start thinking about getting a nice bitch so we went back to Karen's and brought home "Scarlett" at 8 weeks of age. "Scarlett" had a short show career finishing with 3 majors, one of which was 5 points at the BCOA supported show right after the 1991 Nationals. She was officially know as CH Majenkir Athena Of Avalyn. She was our foundation and what a foundation to start with. She produced 3 litters for us with a total of 12 Conformation champions, several titled coursers including a BIF. Scarlett was recognized at the 2004 BCOA Centennial National's with an ROMX-C certificate. Scarlett had several get whom I would like to mention but as space is limited I'll just mention her most famous daughter "Ice" BIS CH Majenkir White Diamonds who was a BIS, Top Ten, Multiple Group and Breed winner and who also won BOS at Westminster 3 years in a row. "Ice" was owned by Gary and Michelene Nash and lived to be 14 years and a month old. We have also produced TWO ALL CHAMPION LITTERS.

When planning a Borzoi litter we use the same philosophy that we used when breeding our Appaloosa horses. We not only feel that breeding the best possible dogs health wise, conformational with good temperments together is important, but you also have to breed dogs that have that beautiful open side gait and are correct coming and going. This is something we strive for and has worked for us.

Karen has been our mentor and has taught us a wealth of knowledge about the breed. We have co-bred and co-owned several litters and dogs over the years. We consider Karen and Bob our friends. We feel our success has come from listening to Karen, than selecting quality Borzoi to start our kennel with. When we actually decide to breed a litter we choose Borzoi who are as close to the standard as possible and are healthy, sound of mind and sound of body.
